JOSCHKA FISCHER

JOSCHKA FISCHER
former Vice Federal Chancellor, Germany

“The environment becomes today one of the essential production and employment actors. However, there are still campaigns against renewable energy. Since industrial society moves away from oil and towards renewable energy, is very important to develop a major new direction. A new energy policy is necessary. Therefore, we should follow our ambition to head together this development.”

Traian BASESCU

Traian BASESCU
President of Romania

“Nuclear power is one of the stakes accepted worldwide as a solution to reduce CO2 emissions and protecting the environment.”

MIRCEA GEOANA

MIRCEA GEOANA
President, Senate of Romania

“I believe that Europe´s energy security, the long term energy strategy of Romania
is more pressing now, facing this economic crisis. I want to congratulate Forum
Invest for the ambitious agenda of this year’s edition and for the caliber of speakers and guests.”

EMIL BOC
Prim Minister of Romania

“National Priority number one is energy security and promoting national energy identities that link the national strategy of European climate change.”

Konstantinos TSOUKALIDIS

Konstantinos TSOUKALIDIS
President of the Hellenic – Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

“As our world must turn to new energy sources to face the challenges of the future and economy has to make use of new technologies and prospects in the context of the current financial situation, energy is an essential factor of political and economic stability, growth and development.
The region of Central and Eastern – Southeastern Europe has an important role to play in the field of conventional energy sources, the developing technology and market of renewable energy sources and environment-friendly development thanks to its strategic position in the European continent and in the world, and due to its energy potential.
Therefore, I am convinced that the “Energy 2009 in Central and Eastern Europe” conference will offer unprecedented opportunities for a wide range of information exchanges, contacts between businessmen and decision-makers in the region, exchange of views and prospects of new partnerships.
Aiming to encourage investments and research both in Greece and Romania, as members include important companies of the energy sector, which are active all over Europe, the Hellenic – Romanian Chamber of Commerce supports initiatives that strengthen collaboration and development in this sector.”

ANDRIS PIEBALGS
European Commissioner for Energy

“I am happy that our policy approach has been very well received in European Union
countries. You, as Europeans, know that changes are necessary. And you want us to invest in what we call smart energy, so we can ensure a better future for our children.”

THEODOR STOLOJAN

THEODOR STOLOJAN
Member of the European Parliament

“Romania has one advantage that the more developed countries don’t have, that of being able to develop very much energy from renewable resources. At the moment we are not using more than 20 percent of the agricultural land, which can be used for energy development, without having the problem of giving up food land for developing energy.”

Edward CHOW

Edward CHOW
Senior Fellow, Energy  and National Security Program, CSIS, Washington

“Expectations are that the worst of the recession is over, but who can be sure of that? The global economy is on a sugar high because of the stimulus spending. If the recession lags, oil prices could plummet again, discouraging oil companies from investing in exploration and new drilling and discouraging governments from  introducing new alternative-energy programs.”

Tim YEO

Tim YEO
MP Chairman of the Environmental Audit Select Committee, UK Parliament

"The need for secure energy supplies and for more low carbon electricity generating capacity is now the biggest and most urgent challenge for the whole of the EU, and for East and Central Europe in particular.
Without secure uninterrupted supplies of gas the lights may go out and the economy damaged because businesses may find their abilty to operate is undermined.
Without greener low carbon electricity Europe will be unable to meet its targets for cutting CO2 emissions and will thereby fail to play its role in tackling the threat of climate change."

MARIANA GHEORGHE

MARIANA GHEORGHE
CEO Petrom

“Our efforts focus on increasing the energy security of Romania. Our investments aim to maintain oil and gas production as high, but also to support building of new  electricity production units. However, since we are not just a producer of energy  resources, but also a major consumer, improving energy efficiency is a priority for  us.”

YURI SIGOV

YURI SIGOV
US Bureau Chief of “Business People”business magazine

“There is a huge gap between the public opinion perception of the energy business  and its role in environment and climate changes. Due to the lack of solid and stable  interaction through the media and PR system, the big business is still rated as a «big  climate evil» and «main destroyer of the environment». How could this dangerous  communicative gap could be fixed, and what energy company could do in order to be
more «perceptive» and «understandable» for the public opinion and global process of climate and environment protection?”
